Glimpsing on a thin, velvety ray of sunshine - everyday routine of the least fortunate children nowadays. They were not fortunate enough to be given a chance of at least stepping their bare feet on the cemented grounds of a university. They grew up longing and craving for knowledge that fate did not allow them to have. Indeed, that feeling of uncertainty clung to their hearts and minds for each and every day that pass. Due to this crisis, they ended up sitting on the dirty pavements beside highways, reaching up their weary little hands, hoping for a kind-hearted person to pass by.
On the other hand though, some children are fortunate enough to be enrolled on a university - and we are one of them.
Well, some of us don't treasure the gift of education that God gave us, so they just took it for granted. As a result, they ended up giving plenty of reasons just to cut classes. They even spend much of their time in internet cafes and karaoke bars than in home or at school. So, instead of bringing home the bacon for their family, they rather add up problems and concerns to their family, making life more miserable than ever. They never bore in their minds that they were the only hope of their parents to escape from the slavery of poverty. Due to this, that vivid, little hope slowly dimmed away to never.
In this point of view, we can foresee how important education is in our lives, giving us reasons to pursue our studies.
Well, what really is "education" somehow? Some of us only has a brief understanding regarding this word - and that is when we just go to school, opening books and copying some assignments from our fellow classmates, right? Indeed, that's a part of our journey, to be honest with you. But that's not what education is really all about.
We might think that education is present only at school, but it's definitely not.
Our first education started in our very home - where we spent all our days since birth. Our parents are our first teachers. They taught us of 1,2,3's and A,B,C's. From them, we learned the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, weak and strong. They were our only teachers that provided us good education for free, without any payments nor returns. Their teachings made us realize that life is worth taking risks. They made our eyes glimmer of seeing how wonderful life can be, they made our nose tickle by the pleasant fragrance of rose blooms during summer, they added smooth notes on our ears whenever they sang lullabies every night we go to bed, and eased our lonely soul by their gentle, warm hugs and kisses. Try to face the mirror, see for yourself what you're now today. Realize that we're not what we are today without them.
As time passed by, we grew older and older, longing for additional knowledge and wisdom. And that's when we're sent to school - our second education.
Our second education started when we were first enrolled to our first school. School is where we learned the numbers next to 1,2,3 and the other letters in the alphabet. From 1+1=2, we encountered e=mc², x+y+z, essays and paragraphs. This is where we equip ourselves with necessary skills and knowledge to face the world ahead. It is the instrument that molds our well-being to become a better citizen. Education let us met our friends and classmates. Here, it is not our parents who teaches us, it's our beloved teachers. Consider a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Will the flock be organized? It will not, right? It's just almost the same with our life in school. A class needs a teacher to guide them. Without one, education will not take place.
In general, our education will serve as our sword and shield for us to conquer life.
All of us were very lucky. Why? We don't need any treasure maps to find treasure, because we already have one - our education. We can give up everything we have, but our education will be our "lifetime treasure".
